说明︰此句型意为“不仅／不但…而且…”。not only…but also 称为“<对等连接词>”，所连接的两个单字，须用相同的词性。如果连接两个<动词>时，前后的时式要一致；如用于连接两个<主词>时，重点在第二个<主词>，因此<动词>须与第二个<主词>一致。若连接对等的<主要子句>，而由 not merely，not only 开头，则要用倒装形式。
